Rotary International at Heritage Square

by Brian Sheridan

I've met a lot of great and interesting people during my time at Heritage Square Museum. On June 16, however, I had the great privilege of meeting a particularly impressive group who came to Los Angeles from all over the world just to spend a little time with us! O.K., so that's not exactly true, but it does tell part of the story. Every year, Rotary International picks a different location to host their convention. This year, Los Angeles was chosen. As a member of Pasadena Rotary (http://www.pasadenarotary.com/). I offered Heritage Square as a host destination for our guests. We were chosen, along with the Wriggly Mansion and the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

Our guests, who came from England, Australia, New Jersey, and Canada were treated to a sit down meal in front of our historic boxcar and a brief tour of the grounds led by Teresa Norden and Denise McMaster. I also have to thank Jim Ciccolo for his efforts putting the event together. Everyone had a great time, as evidenced by the impromptu speech of one of our guests asking all her fellow rotarians to pitch in for money. (I couldn't have said it better myself!)

Rotary was the world's first service organization and is largely responsible for eradicating polio in the developed world. To learn more, visit http://www.rotary.org/.
