As the stock market and real estate values crash, non-profits are feeling the pinch just like everyday folks. For this reason, its nice to come across some news that benefits all non-profits. I just read in the Chronicle of Philanthropy that Capital One will cover the transaction costs for charitable gifts that its credit card holders make through the company's new giving site, allowing the total amount to go to the donor's chosen charity. Since we have noticed a trend of more and more people using their credit cards to make gifts, this is certainly good news for us and I imagine, is good news for a lot of other local institutions. (Typical, a 1-5% fee is charged when using a credit card.)
The new giving site is a partnership between Capital One and the Network for Good an organization whose website allows donors to support any charity in the United States. For more information, go to www.capitalone.com/give (the legal name of Heritage Square, by the way, is the Cultural Heritage Foundation of Southern California, in case you don't immediately find us.) Hint, hint...
